Easing into Fall

Although you’d never know it here in Texas with the 90 degree temperatures, it is fall.  One of my favorite times of year when nature tends to scurry around to get ready for the winter, and I feel like I’m doing the same.  I’m scurrying around getting mentally ready for the holidays, wrapping up the year of work and then moving into the next phase of it all by making my lists and checking them twice before going out and emptying my bank account.  And it’s not even Halloween yet.  However this time of year, especially after Halloween, tends to whirrr by like the end of a toilet paper roll.  You think there’s more of it but it’s gone before you know it.  And it seems to happen this way every single year.

It can be a stressful time getting ready for what’s coming.  If it is for you, start thinking about how you can do something different this year to take the anxiety away or at least lessen it.  Start making your lists earlier. I keep a list on my phone so when I see something or think of something for someone else, I put it in my phone.  When you are ready to start shopping, you can choose from your already made list and don’t have to scramble.  Start making your lists shorter.  When it’s actually time to make your purchases, do you have to buy everything on the list?  I think not.  Less is more.  And they will appreciate it.  It really is the thought that counts.  Really.  Slow down.  Remember what the season is truly all about.

Move through the season with intention and awareness.  Enjoy each day and what each day brings.  Start thinking about what you are going to do a little bit different this year.  It’s never too late to start making small changes to make your life easier.

Is Your Life Chaotic??

Well, join the ‘Life is Chaotic, I Have No Time for Myself’ club.  I don’t know anyone these days that isn’t running around dropping kids off, picking kids up, working, making lunches, working, making dinner, paying bills, working…you get the picture.  Life can be chaotic.  Life is also full of choices.

Breathe.

Have you been wanting to do something on that long list of ‘things to do for me’ (if you don’t have a list, then make one) but haven’t gotten around to it because your’re too busy?  Just do one thing for YOU today.  Go to the gym, play in the garden, walk around the block, take a short hike. Dance. You’ll be amazed how it makes you feel.  Perhaps you’re going to want to do it again.

The reality of life is sometime chaos.  We can change that flow.  What are your goals and dreams?  Take one step in making that happen for yourself.  Listen to that little voice that you’ve been ignoring.  That is your heart speaking to you.  Slow down just a moment to listen to your heart.  What’s the worst that could happen? As we make one, small change in our lives, we have that option to incorporate it into our life on a regular basis.  The choice is all yours.  That’s the beauty.

My heart is speaking to me right now.  It is saying that it wants to take a hike and breathe in some nature on this beautiful fall day.  I think I’m going to listen.  Hope to see you on the trails!

Today is the youngest you’ll ever be.

Eat Fat to Lose Fat. Yes. Really.

It seems counter-intuitive, but when I started eating FAT, and I mean good, solid, high quality fat that comes in nuts, seeds and oils, I finally lost those last 5-7 L.B.s that I’d been trying to lose for years. And I mean years.

I worked out and sweat like a fiend but still kept my same diet of, well, not so good stuff.  I thought, hey, I’m working out, so I can still eat what I want. I was sure the weight would eventually come off…if I kept working out.  Fast forward many years.  I was still having the same conversation with myself.  How does this happen?  And for so long?!  We are all creatures of habit.  If we don’t do something and I mean something really different, to make that change and shift in our lives, nothing is actually going to change. We kid ourselves but we don’t know that we are kidding ourselves because we are caught in an infinite loop (our habits) and to change what we are so use to, just doesn’t happen very easily.

So take a look at what you do everyday.  What small changes can you make in your life to really make a big impact over time?  Whether it is giving up the bad fat for the good fat or walking around the block a few times a week instead of sitting on the couch when you get home from work and munching on those chips, just do it. Do something different.  Today is the youngest you’ll ever be…so why not?
